Bookkeeper (Volunteer or Contract)

Position Overview

WomanCare Pregnancy Centre is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to support the financial administration of our registered charity. This role can be filled on a volunteer or contract basis, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and availability.

The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting payroll and remittances, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards for Canadian charities.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Recordkeeping

  • Maintain accurate bookkeeping records using Sage or QuickBooks Online
  • Enter and reconcile donations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Prepare monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds as required by CRA charity rules

Payroll & Benefits Administration

  • Process semi-monthly or monthly payroll
  • Ensure compliance with BC Employment Standards for wages, vacation pay, and statutory holidays
  • Prepare and remit payroll source deductions (CRA)
  • Maintain WorkSafeBC reporting and remittances

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly financial reports for the Executive Director and Board
  • Assist with quarterly budget updates and annual budget preparation
  • Support the annual financial review or audit as required

Charity Compliance

  • Maintain organized financial records for CRA filings
  • Support preparation of the annual T3010 Registered Charity Information Return
  • Track program expenditures for grants and donor reporting
  • Ensure proper receipt and documentation of charitable donations

Qualifications

  • Bookkeeping certificate, accounting diploma, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with Sage and/or QuickBooks Online
  • Experience with payroll processing in BC
  • Understanding of charity financial requirements (or willingness to learn)
  • Familiarity with WorkSafeBC reporting
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and meet monthly deadlines

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 5–10 hours per month, depending on experience
  • Schedule is flexible; monthly deadlines required for payroll and reporting

Compensation

This role may be filled as:

  • Volunteer (unpaid service)
    or
  • Contract (hourly or monthly contractor rate, to be discussed with applicant)
